A Message from Principal McHale

Eagle Families,

Congratulations to SRMS 7th grader April Surac for being one of the top five District-Level Spelling Bee Champions! She will move on to the next level of the Spelling Bee representing SRMS.  Congratulations April! We had a great first week of games for our volleyball intramural teams.  We will host games this week to close out the volleyball season.  If your student is wanting to participate in basketball intramurals be sure to get the physical on the OCPS form completed.  More information for basketball intramurals will be out soon!

What’s Happening next week at SRMS?

Next week at SunRidge, we will celebrate Literacy Week. This year's theme is "Humanity Tells a Story...What's Your Chapter?" and we will have a different activity for each day of the week. We will kick off the week with Monday Minutes, encouraging students to log their minutes of reading in Beanstack as well as participate in the virtual book efair, which runs Monday through Friday next week. More details for each day's activities will be posted in the Student Body course, as a global announcement in Canvas, and shared through Language Arts classes.

Monday, 1/25- County-wide Infrastructure Trial of laptops for state testing at 9:30am.

Thursday, 1/28- Eagles University for current 6th and 7th grade families.

Parents of current 6th and 7th graders please mark your calendar for information regarding course selection for the upcoming school year.  Eagles University will be presented virtually by our counselors on Thursday, January 28th beginning at 6:00pm.    The link to the Microsoft Teams meeting is- http://tinyurl.com/y2dwfovf  Find out what options are available for the upcoming year and how your student will select course options. E-Blast for Eagle's Landing 3 of 3.pdf

Parents and Guardians we need your feedback!  It is time for our Annual OCPS Parent Survey.  Please complete one survey per school.  Surveys can be accessed by visiting the link- http://bit.ly/ocpsfamily

Attention 8th grade families- Next Wednesday, January 27th is the FINAL day to submit an 8th Grade Dedication page to be included in this year’s SRMS Yearbook.  Information and submissions should be made by visiting www.balfour.com .  Please email robin.nelms@ocps.net if you have any questions.

Also 8th grade families- there is a link on Canvas in Student Body Course of the WOHS presentation held for our students this week.  Please ask your incoming high schooler to watch it with you!  All students should now have a WOHS course on their Canvas dashboard.  This course provides families with important information regarding high school.  Be sure to check it often.  If your child does not have the WOHS course in Canvas please email Amanda.dimarzo@ocps.net with your name and student number to be added to the course.

 Sincerely,

Amy McHale, SRMS Principal

The Family survey is open from Jan 14-March 12 Please visit: bit.ly/ocpsfamily   Guardians and parents should complete one survey per school that they have a child attending. If you have multiple children at the same school, you should think about the experiences of your older child in that school.

TECHNOLOGY ISSUES?

There are several places to find the Student Troubleshooting Technology Guide.  It can be found on the SunRidge Middle School Home page sunridgems.ocps.net and on the Parent tab under Digital Technology.

If you need laptop repair please make an appointment using the link on our website https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508054fa8aa2da0fa7-device

Parents, please be sure your child's face mask fits properly and is worn correctly. The mask should cover both the nose and mouth at all times. If the mask is too big and tends to slide down, try twisting the ear loops to make it tighter across the face or tie a knot to shorten the loops.

Masks that are worn without covering the nose and mouth are not effective and put all at risk!

There are many volunteer opportunities here at SRMS! If you are looking to get involved please email  volunteers@srmsptso.org to hear about the many different teacher, school and PTSO activities available. We appreciate all of our volunteers as they help to make our school a success!

The first SAC (School Advisory Council) meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd at 4:30pm in the SRMS Media Center.  New members are invited to join the SAC...teachers, staff, parents, and community members. All parents are always welcome to SAC Meetings, but will need to be voted on to be a voting member of the School Advisory Council.  This is a fabulous way to stay abreast of what is going on at SunRidge Middle School and to have a voice in continuing the success.
